World Environment Day Consciousness, Awareness, And Responsibilities.
Let the 5th of June every year not be remembered or celebrated as just another day in the year, in which we reiterate our commitment towards some cause, and leave it at that for another year. The word "Environment" itself is omnipresent and it is very difficult to define the boundaries of "Environment" in an academic frame. There is so much to it and it is only our Consciousness, Awareness and Commitment to our Responsibility not only towards; Mother Earth but the whole Universe that will take us forward to see and live better days!
The Wikipedia lays out this explanation in a very nice and simple way to get us acquainted with what World Environment Day means to the layman.(Due credits and Thanks to Wikipedia).
World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on 5 June and is the United Nations' principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. First held in 1974, it has been a platform for raising awareness on environmental issue such as marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. World Environment Day is a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, the program has provided a theme and forum for businesses, non government organizations, communities, governments and celebrities to advocate environmental causes.
World Environment Day was established in 1972 by the United Nations at the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, that had resulted from discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment. Two years later, in 1974 the first WED was held with the theme "Only One Earth". Even though WED celebration have been held annually since 1974, in 1987 the idea for rotating the center of these activities through selecting different host countries began.
But that is what is good to know, what we need to know is a lot more. I could go on for pages on writing about the Environment and our responsibilities towards saving and protecting the environment, but will limit myself to a few very important points.
You could read all about this from the primary source of authentic information - The United Nations page for World Environment Day - https://www.un.org/en/observances/environment-day.
What we need to know is much more or rather what we need to be conscious and aware is much more.
I specially liked the Tag Line on their page saying:
REIMAGINE - RECREATE - RESTORE.
To do this we would need to go back in time, literally in our very generation of ourselves to the very core of our existence. The degeneration of the Environment as we call it started the very moment we de-alienated ourselves from the very basic understanding of the the essence of life. It will be a long topic for me to discuss here on, but suffice to say and understand the very core of what I am trying to get to.
The whole Cosmos in itself is held together by an infinite energy that binds us together. Starting from the very smallest of matter - The Atom. We all know that the Atom - is made up of Neutrons, Protons and Electrons and it is their inherent energy between the three components that hold them together and identify them as a Unique Atom of a particular Matter. Depending on the structure of each Atom we have given them a name and placed them in the Periodic Table of Elements. These comprise the Material Matter.
Similarly each cell in life, and every available matter on earth is basically a single Atom of that particular life holding wonder. The structure of any material, living or non living is in fact a co-existence of basic Atoms or Cells holding on together in a delicate and sensitive balance. Each individual Atom or Cell further goes on to create a larger matter or being, which we all know and study through our Sciences.
In this way the whole world, the cosmos and every element in this Universe is held together in this delicate balance. But somewhere down the line, in our Greed and Need to grow and be better Societies or Peoples we have slowly but steadily Broken down these basic balances of co-existence. The slow, steady degradation of these delicate Bio-systems has led to the destruction of entire systems or ecological structures. Extinction of Species, Animals, Wildlife, Nature, and even Biological elements , sadly unknown to many of us is one of the most dangerous degenerations of our very existence.
This is a very humongous topic and as mentioned in the title of my post it is only the "Consciousness, Awareness and Responsibility" towards making this Day not only an Environment Day but a Day of Re-Awakening, that will in the least slow down, if not hold back our slow and steady advancement towards self-destruction.
Let us start with the least we can do. Arouse the Consciousness of elements and systems around you, generate Awareness amongst people who can take up the Responsibility to get involved, collect more people to get involved, and take this movement forward to make our World a better place to live in.
We are not even aware how many elements are co-related to form this "Environment". As highlighted by the United Nations; environmental issue such as marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime are just a few of the major issues that are a threat to peaceful co-existence. Let us break them down into smaller elements which would be manageable by one section of our society, and take them up with serious intent.
What better a source than our Children, Youth and Upcoming Little Scientist of the New Generation who are the biggest potential to take up this Noble Cause. On this -World Environment Day (WED)- let us reiterate our commitment to arousing Consciousness, Awareness and sense of Responsibility amongst ourselves as well as this young brigade to join hands in giving back the Universe and the Cosmos its true Beauty which we slowly but steadily destroyed.
Easier said that done is it? NO - create a committed group amongst yourselves, take up any one issue from the innumerable ones as cited above, start with collecting more information about it. Get going with arousing more Consciousness, Awareness and sense of Responsibility, towards those issues not only as a topic of study of some event, but an ongoing process that will not only give you but your future generation to be happy about. Take up small projects individually or in a team to elaborate on your point of study and give something concrete to go forward with.
We have been fortunate enough to have so many great Scientists, Philanthropists, Corporate Magnates as well as the Government itself which has opened themselves up to dialogue and active help as well as involvement. Connect with the best of the best, take their advice and suggestion, make them a part of your event or program if needed, and you will experience a new level of enthusiasm along with achievement arousing in yourself and your team.
This is but a small step in the right direction, so do not worry of the adversities or challenges that may arise during the course of your endeavors. Turn those adversities into opportunities and you will find yourself on a path of fulfillment and happiness that will know no bounds.
Mother Earth, The Universe and the whole Cosmos is waiting with open arms for you, so go out there and make this your stepping stone to make your and everyone's life a better place and life to live in.
Besides a series of new posts coming up shortly, do check out for my next post "Know Your Limits" which is a more serious version of this same topic which opens up serious avenues to facts and opinions which were the very cause of this downfall and degradation of the Environment and Nature.
Wishing you all a - World Environment Day (WED) - and may your endeavors bear fruit in making this World A Better Place To Live In!
